Global health leaders at the London Declaration on NTDs

At a meeting held in the Royal College of Physicians on January 2012 in London, Sanofi reinforced its commitment to control or eliminate five neglected tropical diseases by 2020. Sanofi announced a new partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and EISAI to join the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Global Program to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (or elephantiasis) by 2020. Sanofi also extended its commitment to the WHO to eliminate sleeping sickness by 2020. These commitments are a key part of the “Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases” partnership.

The Group’s contribution to the largest concerted action against neglected tropical diseases will see them continuing to support or expand donation programs for existing medicines to meet the 2020 goal, providing additional resources for prevention, education, surveillance and awareness programs in specifc disease areas. The group will also share its expertise and compounds to accelerate research and development of new drugs.

More than one billion of the world’s poorest people are affected by neglected tropical diseases.
