FOCUS
DIABETES: Going beyond together
Diabetes is a persistent disease caused by either an inherited or acquired deficiency in the pancreas’ production of insulin or an inadequate production of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the concentration of sugar in the blood. At Sanofi, our focus is to simplify the management of a complex disease - for people with diabetes and their healthcare providers. We want people to live ‘beyond’ diabetes, to achieve aspirations and to make the most of every day.
VACCINES: The values of vaccines
Only a century ago, infectious diseases were the main cause of death worldwide. Today, vaccination can prevent several infectious diseases. Mass immunization programs have proved effective in controlling and even eliminating diseases. Apart from access to drinking water, no other item on the health agenda has had such an important impact on reducing mortality. The World Health Organization estimates that vaccination saves more than 3 million lives every year.
MALARIA: Leading the fight against malaria
Malaria is the most widespread transmissible disease, affecting most tropical and sub-tropical countries of the sub-Saharan Africa, South and South-East Asia, and certain parts of South America. An estimated one-third of the world’s population lives in malaria-affected areas. Every year, approximately 300 million people will suffer an attack of malaria and 1 million people, primarily young African children under the age of 5, will die from it.
